I promised [...myself mostly...] I wouldn’t throw too much baby spam up here on my business blog. However, since this baby is pretty much all I’ve been up to for the past month, I thought it might be worth quickly checking in around here to introduce our son, Morris Lawrence Driemel to the world. This little mountain man was born right here in our home, early in the morning of January 29.
I’m usually pretty exhausted and honestly quite often go through most of the day with at least a small amount of baby spit-up on my shirt, but I am so smitten with this wee dude. Overall, I feel mostly at home in my new role as a mum. Of course I have so, so, SO much to learn, but really, this parenthood gig seems to have come pretty naturally which I am grateful for. Mo is a rockstar baby boy who is becoming increasingly squishy every single day. As for Adam, well, I’m not at all surprised to report that he is the absolute very best father and husband either Morris or myself could have ever hoped for.
I’m gearing up to head back to work in a couple weeks to shoot Mark & Kathleen and Carly & Taylor‘s mountain winter weddings. Until then, here’s a peek into our first month as a family of three. If you’re interested in seeing way more annoying mum photos, you can certainly follow along at Little House in the Mountains.
The photos from the birth were done by our wonderful doula, Julia. The rest were taken either by myself or Adam…I’m so happy we were both excited to document these first few weeks.
My mum has been the most amazing support through the pregnancy, birth and first month as a mum. I am just downright spoiled to have such an wonderful woman to learn from.
You can expect things to get a tad bit quiet around here over the next couple months. Life is about to get just a tad crazy for Adam & I…but, from what I hear, in reality it’s actually so much more awesome in so many more ways than it is crazy. We are so ready and SO excited for this next new adventure. Our happy little home of two will be three any day now.
So, while things slow down here at JWPhoto for the next while, you can bet this photo geek will still be snapping away as a brand new crazed mum. I hope I’ll have the opportunity to share a few slices of life, some funny stories and a the occasional mega-cute photo of Baby D over at my personal blog, Little House in the Mountains and I’m quite confident there will be a good amount of annoying mum photos on Instagram…follow along if you dare.
I’ll leave you with a handful of our belly photos snapped by our good friend Tessa Perkins back in November [back when I thought my bump was nice and big…I'll fill you in on a little something, it's MUCH rounder now!] …I loved this shoot!
Adam & I headed west for a little camping getaway on Vancouver Island last week. We met up with a whole bunch of his family as well as many great old friends from our days in Victoria. It’s such a beautiful part of the world, we spent a good chunk of our driving time [...and believe me, there was a good chunk of time to be had in the car...] scheming how we could relocate back to Victoria…while not giving up the mountain town life here in Canmore that we missed so much back when we lived on the Island.
Baby D visits the West Coast!
…in search of wild mushrooms!
What a haul of beautiful chanterelles. Dinner was so tasty that night.
The Driemel family takes their wood pile very seriously.
Adam’s getting pretty good with the camera these days. And he’s also become very devoted to hauling it around when I’d rather leave it behind to have a free hand. So…lots of photos of myself from this trip! [Which I think will be pretty cool for little Baby D to see once he or she is all grown up.]
We had only one day in Victoria, we made the best of it.
A huge oyster dinner at an old Victoria favorite, Ferris’.
