Stephanie and her family travelled out to the Rockies from Toronto to celebrate her husband recently acquiring Canadian citizenship. Like most visitors to our beautiful little corner of the world, they hoped for big mountain views. Instead, they arrived amidst the haziest, smokiest week I’ve ever experienced here in the Bow Valley. Despite the conditions, I’m pretty confident we were still able to capture that happy family vacation buzz during their photo shoot…little Kate was such a gem in front of my camera!
My job is pretty much the best…hanging out with awesome people in a beautiful corner of the world as they let me take a little peek into their life to tell their story during some of the happiest, most monumental seasons of their lives. The only thing that really tops it is when these awesome people are old friends.
Jen and I met here in the mountains when we were both young dirtbags from the prairies. It was during these years that, despite my dirtbaggedness, I made some of the best, most authentic, like-minded and long-lasting friends of my life.
Jen was an old pro with one ski season under her belt and I was a rookie when we became neighbours and good buds shortly after. At the end of the winter, along with another friend we came up with the grand scheme to move out east to Halifax for the summer while we waited for the next ski season to kick off. After that second winter we drifted our own ways for a few years. And then Facebook came on the scene…we reconnected and learned that we had both headed off to college to study photography; me in Victoria and her in Toronto.
Once I moved back to Canmore in 2009, no longer dirtbags, Jen and I started seeing much more of each other. She was one of my most enthusiastic cheerleaders throughout pregnancy. I was soooo excited to learn of her and Randal’s happy news this fall. Jen, next time I see you you’re going to be a MOTHER! This kiddo is going to be so loved. And probably kind of a dirtbag for a few years
It’s been quite sometime since I shared many of our personal photos here on this blog. Adam and I are nearly 10 months into this parenthood journey. It has been a pretty rad ride, so far. I never knew how much I’d love being a mum until I was thrown right into it. Life has been so fun, so exhausting and so incredibly fulfilling since we became a family of three back in January. I’ve learned a lot about babies and a lot about myself. My time management, productivity and ability to run on broken sleep has increased to levels I never knew possible. I love having a built-in adventure buddy always willing to tag along…and pose for the camera, of course.
A couple weeks ago – after the snow but before the freeze – Morris and I took a day trip out to Lake Louise to take in the sights. I’ve never seen this iconic lake looking quite as stunning as it did this day. Coincidentally, this was the day I began to get big, consistent smiles from Baby Mo for the camera…I think he’s going to love winter! If you ask me, I’d say we had a pretty great day together. It’s got me even more excited for all the little outings we’ve got ahead of us as he grows up and becomes more interactive.
Anyhow, here is a bit of mum spam mixed in with some really beautiful scenic shots of our amazing backyard. I hope everyone is enjoying this first little bit of the winter season!
