Kathryn and Luke were married last month on a brisk but sunny fall day at Edmonton’s Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. It was my very first time shooting at this historic Alberta hotel, and it was such a pleasure. This couple, their families, the wedding party – EVERYONE – treated me like gold. They hosted a simple cocktail reception with various food stations followed by one heck of a dance party; I always enjoy photographing informal cocktail receptions…they’re so social and interactive for me to move around easily throughout the entire evening. These newlyweds have recently returned from a honeymoon in Paris…welcome home and enjoy your photos!

Kathryn and her bridesmaids headed out to NYC for a dress shopping excursion. She found her absolutely perfect Kenneth Pool gown at Manhattan’s infamous Kleinfeld Bridal. 14 layers of tulle…that’s my kind of party dress.

Each girl picked out a unique little black dress and black heels. I love this trend for bridesmaids.

Truth be told, a few of the groomsmens’ pants were a tad too tight to tie up their own shoes. For this reason, they were forced to step up and help one another with this task…and were certainly all looking extra dapper. I do love it when the boys opt for custom suits rather than rented tuxes.

I chatted with Luke’s seriously sweet dad, Jim for a bit during the party. He told me his son’s wedding had been the very best day of his life.

We went to the U of A campus where they met nearly ten years ago for the photo shoot. I was so glad to find a few fall colors left in the trees.

The light in this little courtyard was just perfect.

Luke was a club DJ throughout most of his university years. Clearly a standard wedding DJ wouldn’t do. Instead, they commissioned one of his old friends for the tunes. It takes a lot for me to actually tap my feet when I’m shooting a wedding, but the music at this party was seriously awesome – it was one of the best wedding dance parties I’ve seen in a while.

   Well worth the wait Julie. Stunning! And it must have been a joy to work in a new location. Kathryn’s dress is so dramatic and they make a gorgeous couple.
